Rules are meant to be BROKEN...

Since we were little we’ve been given rules. It all started in kindergarten when they made us walk in a straight line, sit in a chair and even carry an obnoxious token that says, "in case you were wondering, yes, yes I am using the restroom." Adults tell us,” RULES are there to keep you safe,” but what exactly are they keeping us safe from? Naturally, it's our own human instinct to rebel. So we go with the idea that "rules were meant to be broken." But yet, still, when someone is a little bit unique or different we turn our noses in disgust... Funny, how we soon realize they were just ahead of the curve..

I think back to my shock in my older sister. I couldn't believe someone would shave their arms or wear a certain type of underwear that was named after a sandal if you catch my drift. I teased her to no end. But once I grew up a little, I realized shaving your arms really wasn't weird. I still don’t, but half my friends in high school all did. Not to mention, now I think not wearing those "sandals" is bizarre. But I guess that's how fashion and some aspects of life really are. It’s like that song you hear for the first time and think it's so weird! But then the next thing you know, it's the most played song on your itunes. I mean look at Lady Gaga. She's bizarre and we all thought her antics were outrageous at first, but now, I mean let’s face it, even Glee did a tribute episode to her. Yes, it was AMAZING.

So I guess my latest rant is devoted to those staunch rule followers. I love clothes, wearing, looking or even making them. But, honestly, my fashion, follows no rules, in fact it breaks most. I love when we tell each other, “ya but you can pull it off!” The fact is, anyone can wear any style, it's just a matter of whether or not we chose to. One of my favorite people wears the most random pieces of clothing but when she puts it together, she's a knock out. I guess today I realized the irony of all those how to dress websites, What not to wear shows and all those lists talking about fashion rules. Really? Rules for fashion, I object. What we wear is who we are. I'm a mess so sometimes my clothes look like a mess. I vote we leave the rules back in the kindergarten classroom. Because sometimes, stripes and pok-a-dots look bomb together and Black and Brown really do look fabulous when paired.

But maybe.. that’s just me.
